NEMP Forum advocates modification of guidelines for MP fund

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: The members of the NEMP Forum advocated that the guidelines circulated by DoNER ministry earmarking Rs.5 Crores (for a period of 5 years) for each MP from NE region under NLCPR be amended suitably with certain modifications.

In a meeting held with the Union Minister for Development of North Eastern region, B K Handique at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on Nov 26, all NE MPs appreciated the measured being taken by the DoNER ministry for the safety and security of the NE people in national capital. The Forum has also decided to meet the NE youth organizations in Delhi directly in this regard.

NEMP Forum members also desired to have a meeting with NE Media Forum in Delhi under the auspices of the Ministry of DoNER.

While discussing various issues related to the development of the North East region, the minister briefed the MPs about action taken by the ministry after the recent incidents of attacks on NE youth in Delhi. The minister elaborated on NE Connect – the cell launched by DoNER to look in to such issues.

Participating in the meeting Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Agatha Sangma stressed for more sustainable activities for the integration of North Eastern youth in Delhi by encouraging them to enhance their growth in the careers, rather than settling for low income jobs in BPO’s /Call Centers. This is required, she said, in order to produce more influential people from the North Eastern region.

Union Minister of State for Water Resources, Vincent Pala appealed to the NEMP Forum that officials of All India Services from North East cadre should be given preference in appointment to top level posts like Secretary, DGs, etc in the Central Government. He observed that no IAS/IPS officers from North East cadres were appointed to such postings for the last 4-5 years.

Seminar on “Negotiating Interventions in South East Asia”

RONO HILLS, Nov 27: Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies (AITS), Rajiv Gandhi University will organize a three-day international seminar on “Negotiating Interventions in South-East Asia” from 15th to 17th February 2010. The seminar will focus on interventions of technology, economy, polity and ideology which have already affected all aspects of human life and their nations.

It aims at sensitizing on various issues of development within an interventionist frame in the countries of South East Asia and in particular a broad understanding is expected to emerge as a result to throw light in a right perspective on the issues relating to India’s Look East Policy in the context of North East.

The seminar would bring a number of leading intellectuals of South East Asia, overseas, planners and NGO activists who are genuinely concerned in the development of the region and who influence policy decisions at various levels to develop a broad perspective on the issue of development of North East through Look East policy.

Ration items wrongly dropped on house, two injured

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: In an unfortunate incident at Chambang circle, ration items were dropped by Indian Air Force wrongly on the house of one Gora Tagung, 300 meter away from actual dropping place of the ration items. In this incident his wife and son who were present at the house got severely injured by materials dropped by IAF helicopter. The injured victim has since been shifted to a hospital in Itanagar.

In a release issued, Gora Tagung Zilla Parishad Member of Chambang and brother of victim’s family asked government and IAF authorities to take proper safety measures while dropping ration items in the area. He also requested officials to release compensation fund for the victim sooner.

H1N1 awareness campaign reaches Bomdila

BOMDILA, Nov 27: The awareness campaign on influenza A H1N1 has reached Bomdila.

During the 5-day campaign, started on Nov 24, the Field Publicity Units of Bomdila, Tawang and Seppa have organized interactive programmes, photo exhibitions, film shows, healthy baby show, drawing and painting competitions in West Kameng district to sensitise the people about H1N1 flu.

Addressing the main function held at Bomdila on Nov 27, Bomdila SMO Dr. D.K. Lama informed the people in details about the symptoms of influenza A H1N1, precautions and measures to be taken. The chances of spread of H1N1 virus are more in winter, so people should take maximum care for protection, Dr. Lama added.

Clarifying the quarries about H1N1 raised by the people during the interactive session Dr. Lama said that H1N1 virus is not spread by the swine but it may be transmitted from human to human.

Raj Kumar, Joint Director, DFP, Itanagar, while addressing the students of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Bomdila said that younger generation can play an important role in protecting society from influenza H1N1. He said that students should know about H1N1 and must inform their parents, friends and relatives about its symptoms and precautions to be taken in daily life. A quiz contest on H1N1 was also organized during the programme where in the students of Modern Public School, Bomdila took active part.

The campaign is being organized by the Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP) in close coordination with Health Department and District Administration. Similar programmes will also be organized in Lower Subansiri, Anjaw, Changlang and West Siang districts.

Mina brings laurels to the state

ITANAGAR,, Nov 27: Tene Mina hailing from a poor family in Roing under Lower Dibang Valley district made Arunachal Pradesh proud by winning a silver medal in the just concluded All India Advance Mountaineering Course conducted by Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling.

In earlier edition of basic mountaineering course, she won the gold medal for the "best all round trainee." Recently, she was selected to participate in the North East Pre Everest Expedition at Jammu & Kashmir organized by North East Adventure Foundation Guwahati and scaled the Mt. Kolahai peak (5426 mts) at Pahalgam Aaroo area. She was the lone participants from Arunachal Pradesh among 12 mountaineers from other NE states, who participated in the expedition, said Dr. KR Meetei, Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, in a release.

She needs the support of government and non- governmental organizations to fulfill her dream of climbing Mt Everest in the coming years, the release added.

Give priority to tourism sector: BJP

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: While appreciating the Government initiative for setting up of proposed National Institute of Mountaineering & Allied Sports (NIMAS) in Arunachal Pradesh and opening of Trade routes with neighbouring countries for trades, commerce and tourism as good gesture, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Arunachal Pradesh urged the state Government to give top priority on development of tourists infrastructure in the state.

In a release today, state BJP general secretary Tai Tagak said Arunachal Pradesh can become a tourists paradise and important tourists’ delight as the land of the state gifted with natural beauties, where many ethnic cultures take shape to a unique ethnic heritage interwoven in life and lore of peace loving tribal people.

Tourism can generate employment and earn more revenue, the BJP said and added that the various archaeological sites that bear testimony to the rich ancient heritage are lying in neglect, waiting for proper renovation and preservation. The ancient caves, historical sites, need proper promotion and preservation. The ancient sites that speak volumes of bygone era are encroached upon. The government should make out sufficient budgetary allocations to spruce up and renovate the sites for posterity and tourist attractions, the BJP pointed out.

The party further said that in order to preserve and promote our unique Tribal culture and traditional handlooms and weaving, the Govt should encourage local entrepreneurship and initiate necessary plan and policy to enhance the resources. There should be plan to encourage students of all government schools to wear their indigenous dresses at least once in a week, it said.

The BJP said measures should be taken for immediate opening of the Border trades with neighbouring countries through Bumla, Taksing, Mechukha, Gelling and Walong besides opening trade through historic Steel Well Road which connects Myanmar from Tirap District.

JNC celebrates college week

PASIGHAT, Nov 27: The inaugural ceremony of 43rd college week of Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat was held yesterday.

Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest MLA Ralom Borang highlighting the importance of co-curricular activities appealed the students to participate in more co-curricular activities to broaden the individual knowledge and personality.

Guest of Honour, ZPM Okom Yosung urged the faculty to work hard for academic glory and also advises the students to maintain peace and harmony.

Principal of the college, Tayek Talom highlighted the achievement and activities of the institution.

General Secretary Students’ union JNC, Danki Ering expressed serious concern over the dilapidating condition of the college building and other infra-structure and appealed the authority concern to look in to the matter immediately.

Effort of Muskan saves a cancer patient

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: The breast cancer awareness campaign conducted by the Muskan Welfare Society in collaboration with department of Health and Family welfare and internationally reputed breast cancer campaigner, Dr. (Capt) Ritu Biyani of ‘Project Highways Infinite’ has borne fruit with one breast cancer patient undergoing treatment.

The programme coordinator, Dr. Chaitali Lokhande informed that after attending the programme, a lady, aged around 65 years from Ziro did self examination as demonstrated in the camp and found some alarming signs and symptoms. She immediately rushed to General Hospital, Naharlagun and consulted Dr. M. Basar, State Programme Officer for cancer. Under his supervision, tests were conducted and it was

positive for cancer. Fortunately, the cancer is in very early stage and is curable. And also treated here in General Hospital, Naharlagun, the programme coordinator informed.

Dr. Lokhande pointed, the very objective of the camp was to detect cancer at early stage so that patient can be cured and live normal live. And in this case, the camp paved way for early detection, she added.

Arunachal Pradesh First Lady Anupama Singh, who is also the President of Muskan Welfare Society, has expressed her satisfaction that at least the camp could be useful for a member of the society.

Reminding her appeal, ‘get smart and get screened to make Cancer Free Arunachal,’ she added, after this case, we, the members of Muskan Welfare Society are motivated to do more and more awareness programmes regarding cancer and other health factors in the future. Singh also extended her gratefulness to Health and Family Welfare department, the district administrations, medical officers and volunteers for the successful conduct of the camps.

The 10-day breast cancer awareness campaign, which was launched on Nov 16at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar, was conducted at Ziro, Daporijo, Aalo, Yingkiong and concluded at Pasighat on 25th last. (PRO to Governor)

GHSS Ziro to meet GHSS Daporijo in final

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: GHSS Ziro will lock horns with GHSS, Daporijo in the final of the Under 16 Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun on November 29.

GHSS school Daporijo defeated GHSS Bilat 4-2 in today’s first semifinals while GHSS school Ziro beat GHSS Aalo 3-0 in the second the semifinals.

Rohit Dui, Tayum Pigia and Talen Jeke scored a goal each for Daporijo school. A self goal by Bilat school was scored in 55 minutes. For Bilat GHSS, Taken Padung and Tomi Panggeng scored a goal apiece.

Koj Chotu (42 min) and Gyati Tatung (47& 62 min.) were the scorer for Ziro GHSS.

Capacity building programme

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: Oju Welfare Association (OWA), Naharlagun, today, organized the first batch of the 4 days training on skill upgradation and capacity building for honey gatherers. 100 beneficiaries from Naharlagun area, Borum Village and Tarajuli village are targeted in 3 batches under the programme.

A.D. Mishra, Zonal Manager, North-East, TRIFED inaugurating the programme appreciated OWA Chairperson, Binny Yanga for motivating the women in particular in income generating activities by honey processing. The programme was sponsored by TRIFED, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India and coordinated by Nilav J. Gohain, for coordinating the programme and wished for its success.

Id-ul-Zuha greetings

NEW DELHI/ITANAGAR, Nov 27: President Pratibha Devisingh Patil today sent her greetings to fellow countrymen on the occasion of Id-ul-Zuha, to be celebrated tomorrow.

In her message, the President said, ''On the auspicious occasion of Id-ul-Zuha, I extend my greetings and good wishes to all my fellow citizens.'' ''May this festival enrich our composite culture and strengthen our unity and harmony and inspire us to work for the well-being of all,'' Patil said.

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen JJ Singh has extended sincere greetings to all fellow citizens in general and to Muslim brethren in particular on the auspicious occasion of Id-ul-Zuha.

Expressing his hope that the occasion will further strengthen the rich Islamic tradition of absolute faith in the Almighty and the willingness to make sacrifices in life in order to stay on the straight path, Gen Singh wished the Id-ul-Zuha this year usher in peace, happiness and contentment for all.

While extending heartiest greetings and good wishes to the Muslim community on the occasion of Id-Ul Zuha, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) hoped this festival would spread message of communal harmony and brotherhood in the state.

19 houses gutted down

PASIGHAT: In a major fire accident near Pasighat Bazar at around 11 am this morning, at least 19 houses along with properties were gutted down.

However, no human causality was reported and the cause of occurrence is not known.

Meanwhile, Minister Education Bosiram Siram expressing grief over the incident appealed the Deputy Commissioner to provide immediate relief to the victims and also urged the BCCI members to monitor the situation for the welfare of the fire victims. DIPRO

HGB Yimo Riba passes away

ITANAGAR: Head Gaon Bura of Daring village, West Siang Dsitrict Yimo Riba passes away at his residence at Dali after prolong illness today.

He is survived by four wives, nine sons and five daughters.

He was a social worker and orator of the community and remains as circle head GB for four years and Anchal Samity members for four consecutive years of Dali segment from 1974.

The last rite will be held at his residence tomorrow.

Transfer opposed

ITANAGAR: All Sagalee Students Union(ASSU) has opposed transfer of teachers from various schools of the area. In a press release they requested authorities concerned not to transfer any teacher from Sagalee circle without any reliever, keeping in mind the insufficient number of teachers in the area.

AOA to cooperate

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA) has decided to support the Parliamentary Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs Wangki Lowang in implementing all the programmes and policies of the sports department in the state.

It further said that this sector has been always a neglected department. The association hopes that under the Wangki, the Sports and Youth Affairs sector would reach a new height, it added.
